In this episode, Heather & Kerissa chat with their friend and sleep specialist Suzanne Gunn.
Suzanne is the mother of 2 neurodivergent children, both PDAers. She is also a Neurodivergent Sleep Specialist. You can learn more about her at The Motherload Neurodivergent Family Sleep. (https://linktr.ee/themotherloadpda)

We will be chatting about the weight of parental shame that neurodivergent parents experience. Parenting doesn't always go like we hope. Meeting the needs of our children can be challenging. No matter how hard we try there will always be areas that dont end up how we want. Suzanne shares about a very difficult and emotional visit to the dentist with her kids. Unfortunately, she experiences a lot of parental shame about the condition of her child's teeth.
We talk about the tough choices we have to make to support the emotional wellbeing of our kids and the difficult consequences of the compromises we are required to make.

*Please be aware that this is a very emotional episode. We are talking about very tough topics which include; shame, burnout and suicidal ideation. While these topics can be difficult to hear (and talk about), it is so important to bring these subjects to light and support each other.

Join us as we share from an authentic & real life perspective on in-depth conversations around neurodiversity, PDA autism profile and the autistic experience. This on occasion includes sensitive and difficult topics. (Topics include but not limited to;  mental health crisis, depression, anxiety, burnout, trauma and suicidal ideation.)  All listeners need to be aware of their own emotional wellbeing and ability to engage in such topics.

We offer connection, co-regulation & community. (And a few laughs!)
Journeys With PDA (Heather & Kerissa) and any special guests are not able to diagnose or prescribe treatments. All information is for educational purposes.
